War Blogs…

Today on NPR’s Talk of the Nation, the topic was war memoirs, but interestingly, there was a big focus on soldier’s blogs–whether or not they are important, truthful, and even patriotic. There was some concern that soldier bloggers might share war secrets before they should, or even inflate a story to make it more interesting. I don’t think this is necessarily something specific to war bloggers, since the same criticisms could be said of any employee blogging. One blogger turned author described his early blogging as “cathartic” and then decided that the publishing process was good for his writing–forcing him to carefully choose what to include and how to say it in such a way that would be interesting and/or useful for the general public.
