I put together this little talk to get the ideas in some of the readings that are now optional in the class expressed quickly. Since Rheingold and Lin are not required these pages along with a bit of talk tomorrow should give you access to some of the ideas that I’d like you to pick up. If in your writing you use the work of either of these authors you should read their books and cite them directly.

John Robinson, editor of the News and Record, will visit our class to talk about the state of blogging, podcasting and forums at his paper. John and the News and Record have been leaders in involving their community and bloggers in specific in the work of the paper and in increased transparency in news operations.
Jimmy Wales of wikipedia.org will visit with us on October 6.
Brian Russell of AudioActivism.org will visit on October 11.
We’ll have other visitors and likely a couple of surprises around November 1. Think of that as a late Halloween treat.
